# Add and manage annotations

> Add and manage network annotations in WiFi Explorer.

Annotations are custom labels you can assign to particular networks. They can be used, for example, to indicate the location of an access point (e.g., "2nd floor") or to help identify or monitor several networks with the same network name (SSID).

  Annotations will be shown in the *Signal Strength*, *Spectrum 2.4 / 5 GHz*, and *Spectrum 6 GHz* graphs only when the *Annotations* column is being displayed.

  If the *Annotations* column is not being displayed, Control-click in the header of the *Networks Table* and then check the *Annotations* column to show it.

## Add annotations

There are two ways you can annotate a network. You can annotate a network by going to *WiFi Explorer* > *Settings* > *Annotations* and clicking the **+** button to add a new annotation for a given BSSID.

The BSSID field value may include **?** or **\*** to match multiple networks to the same annotation. **?** will match exactly one character, while **\*** will match zero or more characters. For example, an annotation with BSSID `11:22:33:44:55:*` will be displayed for networks with BSSIDs `11:22:33:44:55:66` and `11:22:33:44:55:77`.

You can also add annotations directly on the *Networks Table* by double-clicking the *Annotations* column's cell of the network you want to annotate. The BSSID mapped to the annotation will correspond to the BSSID of the selected network.

## Manage annotations

To manage annotations, go to *WiFi Explorer* > *Settings* > *Annotations*. You can add, edit, or delete existing annotations. You can also edit existing annotations directly on the *Networks Table* by double-clicking the *Annotations* column's cell of the corresponding network.

You can import or export annotations by clicking the **More** button and choosing **Import** or **Export**. You can also remove all existing annotations by choosing **Remove All**.
