# Create and manage profiles

> Create and manage column profiles in WiFi Explorer Pro 3.

*WiFi Explorer Pro 3* can show several capabilities and configuration parameters for each network. Some information is not displayed by default and can be shown by enabling or creating additional columns. Because not all troubleshooting tasks require the same information visibility, you can use profiles to create and display different sets of columns suitable for specific troubleshooting tasks and scenarios, and quickly switch between column arrangements as needed.

For example, if you are often troubleshooting Hotspot 2.0 networks, you may create a profile that includes columns to display information specific to Hotspot 2.0 networks, such as *HESSID*, *Vendor Type*, etc. If you are then tasked to work with mesh networks, you can create a mesh network profile and switch between profiles accordingly. By using profiles, you can display only the information you need for the task at hand.

Built-in columns, such as BSSID, network name, signal strength, etc. are part of every profile but you can choose whether to display them or not. You can also create other columns from fields found in the information elements advertised in beacon and probe responses, choosing from more than 650 available fields.

## Create profiles

You can create custom profiles and assign different columns to it. You can also show or hide columns in a profile, add new columns, and change the column order.

  *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* includes a default profile. This profile cannot be deleted or renamed.

### Create a profile

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Click the **+** button under the profile list to create a new profile.
3. Customize the columns in the new profile.

## Manage profiles

You can switch between profiles. You can also rename, duplicate, reset, import or export a profile.

### Switch between profiles

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select a profile under **Active Profile**.

You can also switch between profiles by selecting a different profile from the *profile chooser* shown in the main window of *WiFi Explorer Pro 3*.

<Tip>
  If the *profile chooser* is not shown, go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* > *Profiles* and select **Show profile chooser in toolbar**.

### Rename a profile

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the profile and press **Enter**, then type a new profile name.

### Duplicate a profile

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the profile you want to duplicate.
3. Click the **More** button under the profile list, then choose **Duplicate Profile**.

### Reset a profile

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the profile you want to reset.
3. Click the **More** button under the profile list, then choose **Reset Profile**.

<Warning>
  Resetting a profile removes all previously added columns and resets the **Show** status of the profile's built-in columns. This cannot be undone.

### Import or export a profile

#### To import a profile:

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Click the **More** button under the profile list, then choose **Import**.
3. Select the profile you want to import and click **Import**.

  You can also import a profile by dragging the file into the profile list in *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* > *Profiles*.

#### To export a profile:

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the profile you want to export.
3. Click the **More** button under the profile list, then choose **Export**.

## Customize profiles

You can customize what columns are displayed for each profile. You can also add, pin, rename, or reorder columns.

### Add a column

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the desired profile.
3. Click the **+** button found under the list of columns and choose the field you want to display as a column.

The name of the information element field used to create the column is shown in the **Field** column.

You can also create a column by doing Control-click on the information element field in *Advanced Details* and choosing **Apply as Column** from the context menu. You can also drag the field and drop it over the *Networks Table*'s header to create a column.

<Note>
  Some information element fields cannot be displayed as columns. If the field cannot be displayed as a column, the **Apply as Column** option will not be available, and you cannot drag and drop the field either.

### Show or hide columns

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the profile, then click the **Show** field for the column you want to show or hide.

You can also show or hide columns in the active profile by doing Control-click in the *Networks Table*'s header and then checking or unchecking the name of the column you want to show or hide.

### Pin or unpin a column

Column pinning allows you to fix a column to the left edge of the *Networks Table* so that the column remains visible when scrolling the table horizontally.

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the profile, then click the **Pin** field for the column you want to pin or unpin.

You can also pin or unpin a column in the active profile by doing Control-click in the *Networks Table*, over the column's title, and then choosing **Pin Column** or **Unpin Column**.

<Tip>
  You can unpin all columns in the active profile by doing Control-click over a pinned column and choosing **Unpin All Columns**.
</Tip>

### Rename a column

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the desired profile.
3. Select the column and press **Enter**, then type a new column name.

<Tip>
  You can restore the column's name to its original value by deleting the custom name and leaving it blank.
</Tip>

You can also rename a column in the active profile by double-clicking the column's title in the *Networks Table* and then entering a new column name, or by doing Control-click in the column's title to choose **Rename Column**.

### Reorder columns

1. Go to *WiFi Explorer Pro 3* > *Settings* and click *Profiles*.
2. Select the desired profile.
3. Select the column and drag it within the list, then drop it into the new position.

You can also reorder a column in the active profile by dragging the column's title in the *Networks Table* and dropping it into the new position.

### Size a column to fit

Control-click a column's title in the *Networks Table* and choose **Size Column to Fit** to automatically adjust the column's width to fit its content.
