# General

> General settings in WiFi Signal.

Use General settings to configure the signal strength display units, what metrics should be shown, and more. To change these settings, click on the *WiFi Signal* menu bar extra, then click on the *gear* icon and choose *Settings*, then select General.

| Option                                        | Description                                                                                                                                    |
| --------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Display signal strength as                    | Choose the units, *dBm* or *%*, to display signal strength and noise measurements.                                                             |
| Graph                                         | Choose what metric should be graphed: **•** *Signal Strength*<br />**•** *Signal-to-Noise Ratio*<br />**•** *Data Rate*<br />**•** *MCS Index* |
| Show channel width                            | Choose to display the channel width together with the channel number.                                                                          |
| Show IP address                               | Choose to display the IP address assigned to the Wi-Fi adapter.                                                                                |
| Show MCS index                                | Choose to display the current MCS index.                                                                                                       |
| Automatically close the application's popover | Choose to automatically dismiss *WiFi Signal*'s popover when clicking on any other area of the screen.                                         |
| Automatically check and update database       | Check and install new vendor database updates automatically.                                                                                   |
| Check Now                                     | Click to check for vendor database updates manually.                                                                                           |
